6 Tips For Breastfeeding Moms

  • Pull that hair up! Yes, you might have just washed, dried, and styled those gorgeous locks, but it is best for baby if he/she doesn't have hair getting in their eyes or mouth.
  • The Boppy. Don't give in to the peer pressure! This is one item that after birthing 4 children I can honestly say isn't necessary. I use my trusty arm with my back against a pillow, couch, or chair. From time to time I will rest a pillow half way under my baby's head. You will also discover that the Boppy will most likely NOT fit around your waist right after birth. Mine just kept popping off!
  • Oh the back! Breastfeeding can take a toll on your back until you get used to it. Try to always have support for leaning back. Keeping a masseuse a.k.a. dad on hand doesn't hurt either!
  • Don't let em trick ya! Those sweet babies will fall fast asleep after eating on just one breast. Or at least that's what THEY want you to think. The second you go to lay them down they start rootin' away! Just give their tiny feet a tickle or prop them up to burp and they should wake up enough to finish.
  • Co-sleeping. I am not saying I've never done it or am not currently doing it. I love it. Newborn baby snuggles are like eating chocolate on a cloud. There is nothing better! The problem comes when momma needs to go to town, girls night out, or a work trip. As much as you love cuddling with your newborn, try to get the lovin' in during daytime naps. Baby and you will be much better off if you start teaching them where THEIR bed is.
  • You're in for the long haul. Your little munchkin will be nibbling away for a little while. You will get thirsty and you will need a snack. Nursing is a crucial time to make sure you get in liquids and healthy snacks anyway!
